Georgie<br />

The character of Georgie is inspired by our two granddaughters, right down to the mole on her cheek.

When Grandpa Sid says, “Georgie your wellies are on the wrong feet”, and she replies, “But Grandpa Sid, these are the only feet I’ve got,” it comes straight from our family. That exact line was said by my niece to my brother, and it was too good not to keep.

When Grandpa Sid calls Georgie “sugar plum,” it comes straight from our family. That was the nickname Jay’s dad used for our youngest daughter, and we tucked it into the film as a quiet tribute.

When Grandpa Sid says to Georgie, “I think that calls for a special special teatime. Our two daughters love ordering the Christmas special coffee at their local coffee shop, and think it’s hilarious to call it “special special.”

The character of Jackster is a tribute to our Jack Russell, Jack, who lived to be 16 years old. His favorite treat was a carrot. He loved them so much he even knew what we meant when we spelled it.

Georgie's stocking holder

The black cat stocking holder on the fireplace mantel in Georgie’s house comes from our Haylett Entertainment logo. The name Haylett honors a dear friend who was like a mother to me. The cat was hers, named Branford after the musician Branford Marsalis.

When Grandpa Sid says to Georgie, “May you always remember how special you are”, that’s what I always sign in books at author events. It is exactly what I feel in my heart. We are all special and unique, and we all must try and remember that!
